Sequencer Issue--Stage Show Coming Soon!!!

Sequencer Issue--Stage Show Coming Soon!!!

5 Feb 2009, 19:53
I have a very basic problem with the sequencer that I am sure is an easy fix. I am new to midi, and we are recording a song from scratch on the G for live stage play (synced with a MC-808 for the beat). I am recording pianos, bass, etc...via midi, and have gotten fairly comfortable with the recording and editing end.

My issue is, when I record piano on the 1st track everything is cool, Rhodes on the 2nd track everything is cool. When I go to do a synth bass on the 3rd track I listen to the piano for my intro cue, and the piano part is sudenly playing the piano, rhodes and bass patches all with it's midi file. Makes it impossible to continue recording as the bass is loud and has a lot of portamento noise.

I have attempted many things, including reading through the book and a decent chunk of the forum. The forum is getting huge!

Attempts from the book include checking that the keyboard switch is off, I am already updated to OS 1.2, making sure I am recording in live mode, checking all my patch settings track by track (all three tracks show the correct pacth), as well as other things I can not remember out of frustration last night,

Is there an easy answer to this like I think and hope??? This one answer can get me back in the studio and on the stage (gig in a week), which is the only place I am happy. Thanks for the help as always guys!!

I don't understand why your using live mode, why not studio mode.

I would record each part to a separate track and MIDI channel, while in studio mode/song mode.

Would not live mode follow as a split or layered per the setup of the live patch, this may explain your results.

I am thinking it might be your routing on effects. on the upper right corner where the small box , either its set to --- . set it to A. check on that first.
yes, press effect then check it.

Trying Again To Explain--Thanks For Ideas

I will try the effects idea, although what I hear is the same midi file from track 1, playing as all three patches at once.

I am using studio and song mode, not live mode. I initially was using live mode when I discovered the problem, then wiped everything and began again in studio mode, only to arrive at the same problem.

I would like to restate the problem as simple as possible, all the while crossing my fingers the effects idea may help!

I am in studio and song mode recording a song for the stage. It has to be sequenced and recorded midi so that I may sync tracks with an MC-808 Roland sequencer (which is playing a separate track simoultaneously).

I record the first 2 tracks midi with their patches set to a piano (1) and an EP (2). When I go the record the 3rd track (synth bass) I have to wait for my part to come in, and listen to the piano which is the main reference. When the piano smf file starts playing on track 1, it plays all 3 patches. What I hear is my piano with a Rhodes doubling it, all the while being doubled by a synth bass. The bass gets really interesting when the protamento changes from a low to high note, makes it impossible to even record over.

So... any more ideas? I will be in practice tomorrow (Tues) night, and I will check the effects idea, as well as a thought I picked up on the boards regarding the internal/external patch settings. Any other good ideas before tomorrow night would hopefully make this practice much less mind-numbing that the last.

THANKS!!!!
