Patch Creation

New here. Really excited about the G. Look to be adding one as my main controller soon. I have been mostly a Korg guy for a while, so looking forward to the challenge of making the switch. Hopefully the learning curve wont be to hard....

That being said, I do have one question. If I use Korg terms, please forgive me, as I am coming up to speed....

When you are creating a combination (multiple sounds or programs) can you edit the individual programs on the fly and they are saved in that combi, without affecting the original program?

On a Korg, you cannot directly edit the programs in the combi, so have to go back to program mode, change the program, save, then use your new program in the combination.

Is this the case with the G? Again, sorry about the terminology. I'll get it eventually.

Yes, you can edit the patches right in live or studio mode, without having to go into single mode. These changes are saved within the patches, though, so you need to re-save each patch you edited, but again you do this right from where you are. On the Famtoms, it's cool because many things are done at the same time, like the recording window that can be on top of the patch editing screen, etc.

Thanks for the quick response. That will help alot, and will likely speed up the workflow.

I hear the G being compared the X alot. Will the patches for the X "plug and play" with the G. I can understand where the Expansion cards would not apply, but base sounds and patches from the X, will those work with G? I know that none of my patches from the Triton worked on my M3M, as Korg sited a whole new sound engine. Hopefully this will not be the case the G.

Also, I have been doing a lot of reading, and I may have mis read something. So I am looking for some clarity...Will the sounds from the ARX expansions, be available for use in the Live mode, with Patch remain? I thought I read that they would not be. Not sure why that would be though.

Anyway, great forum, great community, looking forward to being part of the Clan....

The G features a different waveform set and a few new features/changes in the synth engine, so the X patches won't load into it just like that. However, we will be working under conversion software for X patches. BTW, why does this matter to you if you do not seem to have an X? "Best of the best" Fantom-X and Juno-G patches are already in the G.
Will the sounds from the ARX expansions, be available for use in the Live mode, with Patch remain?
In Live mode, the synth engine which has 16 parts, is actually split into two parts. 8 parts are engaged, 8 parts are being held for the next selected Live set. That's how live switching works. For the ARX boards, each board has 1 part as we know, so it seems that live switching will not work - however, we have no official "no" yet. Perhaps you can find the answer in the manual?
Anyway, great forum, great community, looking forward to being part of the Clan....
And please allow me to welcome you here! This really is a very nice place, I am sure you will enjoy your stay.

"BTW, why does this matter to you if you do not seem to have an X? "

I was just thinking of patches that users built. I have come across some really awesome, non factory patches in the past that provide an intersting foundation to start modifying. But, I understand where they are coming from on this, same with the M3M...

"Perhaps you can find the answer in the manual? "

I have downloaded the manuals, and have been reading the ARX sections. Nothing stood out to me, but I will continue to read through it.

Again thanks for the responses....

You're welcome, Roland pays us big money so we can make Korg users switch... oh, I mean... well... ;-)

Hi there,welcome .

Hope you enjoy the G if/when you get hold on of one.It shouldn't be long now...have to make something clear though..

...that above statement, although true to deep programming is not quite accurate. In combi modes on the Triton ST/Extreme,M3 and OASYS you can use tone adjust which gives you access to 33 parameters to change an individual sound within the combination without altering the original and then saving it in that combination.Roland's don't do that.

It is very useful in many aspects because it gives you the ability to change the most important aspects of a sound without resaving loads of patches.

You are wrong, my friend. In both Studio and Live modes you can adjust at least a couple dozen of patch parameters to modify the sounds, and these changes are saved within the Studio or Live set as well.

Lol, i am keeping my M3M with radius, I think the two will play nicely.

I just despise the cutoff between patches though. So for me, live mode is huge.

Are there more parameters in Live mode that you can adjust which you cannot adjust in performance mode?

Also, are there new parameters to adjust in Studio or Live mode which were not available in performance mode on the X?

Well is that on the G cause if it is then bargain.I didn't know that cause i don't have access to one, hehehehe (well not yet )

I stand corrected. We learn something everyday. da daaa.

howardS:

Studio vs. Live mode seem to have the same parameter adjustments. As for G vs. X, I am not sure if there are more parameters, but maybe.

You will learn new things about the G every day, it is an amazingly deep and capable instrument.
