Roland RD700SX Piano Patch for Rock Band

Roland RD700SX Piano Patch for Rock Band

Hey all,

I recently joined a 4 piece rock band. Its my first band I've been in, so the whole keyboard purchasing deal was new to me. I decided on the RD 700SX. I've loved it except for the fact that I can't seem to get a piano sound that works with our rock tunes. It always seems like what ever edit I try, it still gets lost in the mix, and not sustaining the way I would like. I've been mainly working with the Superior Grand patch, but have tried others as well. Anway, anyone got any advice for a newbie 700SX owner or had similar experiences? Thanks!

Michael

Try 600 Grand -- it's #14, IIRC. Or try one of the rock pianos. They all have bright tones, so they'll cut through the mix more than the mellower/richer Superior Grand. You can also play with the graphic equalizer a bit to boost the high frequencies.

Another tip: use one of the balanced XLR outputs instead of the line out. The XLR outputs' signal strength is a lot higher than the line outs', so they will give the mixer more to work with. In fact you'll probably have to turn the keyboard channel down if you're using XLR.
