Audio track recording: best way to chop or split a sample?
2 Aug 2007, 11:55Last week I did record the bassplayer and the guitarplayer of our band and everything worked fine, although there was this next problem:
Once they played a wrong chord (somehow they keep on doing that!) I stopped the recording, go back to a logical point a few measures before and restart the recording. The fantom amazingly overwrites the former track (but after deleting it the older version still is available, great!). However, while recording it the old track is played also, so the false chords confuse the player.
To me it would be logical to split the sample on the place of the cursor (in audio track mode), and delete the last part to have a clean start from that point on. But the Fantom doesn't work that way, and the sample chop function takes a lot of time (guitar players tend to get uncomfortable when they have to wait 2 minutes).
What is the fastest way to deal with this: is there a function I missed? Should I drop down the volume of the recorded part while re-recording? Is the punch in function of any help? Or should I chop after all and is there trick to get to the right postion in the sample to chop it from there?
