Electronic Drum/DrumKit +MC909 questions

Anyone here using an MC in a drumkit set up? What I would like to do is get something like an Alesis Control Pad or basic electronic kit w/ trigger to midi brain, then go to MC909. I'd like to use, say, 7 tracks of the MC909 for a basic kit, say track 9 would be my kick, and each of the 16 samples on that Track9 kit would be different samples of the kick drum with different velocity parameters, like sample 1 = lo-0/hi-9, sample 2 = lo-10/hi19. Then track 10 would be snares. Track 11 - hihat, track 12 - crash, track 13 - ride, track 14,15,16 - Toms.

So, I'm wondering what kind of device would let me do that? Assign a midi channel to one pad...or at least a note number or range of note numbers?

I would also be cool to be able to trigger chopped beats and sampled synthetic tones from a kit.

I use my MC 808 in a hybrid kit (acoustic and electric).

Roland makes the TMC-6 which will assign your triggers to notes on your sound module.

I found an Alesis DM5 used and CHEAP, and got it instead, and it triggers my MC 808 just fine... and I have never sych'd MIDI devices until now. It was pretty easy to learn, just consult the MC-909 manual about controlling it with an external controller (the drum triggers work in the same way as a keyboard... except you can only trigger as many notes as you have triggers).

My setup is: Used Roland PD-6 Pads - Alesis DM5 - Roland MC-808
works like a charm

You can also trigger RPS phrases, samples, sounds, etc. The sky is the limit.

enjoy!

Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

Does your Roland trigger-midi unit let you assign different trigger inputs to different midi channels?
