How SRX-Boards are working..!

5 May 2007, 02:47
Well, i am a dude who want to know how something works, the same with the SRX Expansion Boards or the old SR-JV Boards, i heard that the Sampels and Sounds on the Cards are Compressed to get more Sounds onto the Cards, that's a good idea, but how is working so fast, is the Synthe uncompress the Sound when you jump to the Preset? Well, if someone know more about the way the Boards are working, let me know, pleasee...!!

SRX boards are working in a very interesting way. They are like additional ROM working in realtime. The samples are not "loaded" from them, but are streamed directly from the ROM chips on the board. This is how you get so many sounds available instantly.

The format of the SRX cards is propritary information Roland is keeping as a company secret. Persons with the required knowledge may be able to reverse engineer that info, but making it public may violate the DMCA and/or other laws.

There are other people/companies making sounds for the Fantom X as well. There are also some free downloads by users on this site that are excellent. You should check them out. Since your someone who likes to know how things work, what better way to learn than by creating some of your own sounds, doing it yourself.

That's not the point, i did for my synthy and for other people/companies a lot of Sounds, for example I did the whole Sounds and Sampels for the Software Synthie Sophistry from LinPlug, so I am not a dude who is searching for Sounds, I do them by myself. Interesting for me is using my own Sampels very fast available in the Fantom without loading... You know...?!

I think that SRX boards made by other companies will make the fantom a long step ahead...

I'm with Xenox, the beauty of zero load time is such a simple, great feature, if a company came out with 3rd party custom SRX cards, i'd port all of my own favorite custom patches to them, and grab a fantom XR ASAP
