Damn... :-p

Set midi tx to off in all channels (performance mode).

Play a RPS pattern and monitor the synth's midi out port (use midiox, for example). RPS still transmits midi data. Too bad I didn't find out this 10 years ago.

Ah, I love sunday afternoons...

But the thing is that it transmits the notes thru RPS, and it triggers whatever it is connected to the midi out, even if midi tx is set to off (while playing the keyboard or moving the faders transmits nothing)!

I use this XP-80 as a controller and all the performances except one (the one I use to control the softsynth) have midi tx set to off.

Sometimes I have to use rps, but I have go to the control performance first to mute the softsynth output, 'cos I know that RPS will send midi data anway to it.

Man, something ALWAYS seems to be buggy with RPS in any Roland product.

Why is that?

Hi Johnny1982.

I don't believe what you're reporting is a bug. Here's why.

RPS is part of the XP-80's sequencer. The TX/RX/Local switches are for the controller and sound source and don't apply to the sequencer section. Turning off TX on all channels in Performance mode stops the controller from transmitting data, but that doesn't affect the sequencer. To disable transmission of data in the sequencer, you need to set each pattern track used by RPS to transmit only internally rather than both internally and externally. The same is true of phrase tracks in the sequencer. You'll notice that even if you set TX to off in Performance mode for all channels, the sequencer still transmits when you're playing back. RPS is not different as all it does is trigger sequencer pattern tracks.

Hum, it doesn't seem to exist any option to disable patterns tx... Disabling a channel tx should be enough to stopping it from transmitting any data related to that same channel.

Anyway, setting all tracks output to "internal" doesn't solve anything.

If I'm missing something and there's a way of disabling RPS midi output I'm all ears (I mean, eyes). I still think this is a bug.

Cheers. :)

Stop RPS on XP-80 from triggering external MIDI devices

I have the same problem on my XP-80. I checked the output in the sequencer and set everything to INT (internal) only and it's still triggering MIDI notes to external devices. I did what Nathan Sheldon suggested, however, there isn't an output choice for Pattern triggering from RPS. Just the OUTPUT choice of BOTH, INT, and MIDI can be selected from the phrase tracks. When I am in the Patterns screen it doesn't give me the OUTPUT choice but I can see what channel it was using.

I believe this problem might be a bug, as Johnny1982 suspected.
Was there an OS upgrade that might have fixed this problem?

Thanks.
